Synthesis and structural characterization of EMT-type membranes and their performance in nanofiltration experiments
The present paper reports the first synthesis of the EMT-type zeolite membranes on a porous alpha-alumina support. Structural characterization was carried out by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and permporometry techniques. Deionised water permeation carried out at various pressures showed that the membrane could operate in a reasonably low-pressure range, i.e., substantially lower than those described in the literature. This EMT-type membrane was found suitable for the retention of both ionic and non-ionic solutes. Moderate water permeability and high solute retention capability may make this type of membrane a promising candidate for water purification and recovery of valuable solutes from aqueous solutions.
