Collision energy dependence of the reactions of metastable Ne (2p(5)3s P-3(2), P-3(0)) with small molecules
Crossed supersonic beams were employed to study the ionization reactions at various collision energies E (approximate to 1-7 kcal/mol) of Ne* (2p(5)3s P-3(2), P-3(0)) with CO, N-2, NO, CO2, C2H2, and O-2. Reasons for non-Franck-Condon behavior and possible mechanisms (Penning, excitation transfer, and ion-pair) are discussed. Complete fits, populations, and line shifts are given for CO, N-2, NO, and C2H2. With increasing E, CO and N-2 exhibited a blue shift that increased, whereas NO (X and a) and C2H2 exhibited a blue shift that decreased. Line shifts for CO2 and O-2 are given, as is a partial CO2 fit. (C) 2009 Elsevier B. V. All rights reserved.
