Thermal transport through a fluid-solid interface
Using molecular dynamics we consider the thermal resistances between two fluid (water) reservoirs at uniform hot and cold temperatures separated by solid (silicon) nanowalls. While the influence of the thermal Kapitza resistance on the fluid side of an interface is well known, similar effects on the solid side have not been widely studied. Our results show that these interfacial resistances diminish the wall heat flux by an order of magnitude in comparison with a hypothetical system for which the overall fluid-solid contact resistances are negligible.
