A fluorescent chemosensor AP1 showed specific selectivity for Mg2+. Fluorescence characteristics of AP1 for Mg2+ are distinguished in comparison to those of Ca2+, Sr2+, and Ba2+ by three components: a high fluorescence intensity ratio (nine times), peak wavelength shift (30 nm), and monomer emission shape.
