Application of ceramic membranes in water treatment for fish hatchery supplying purposes
An experimental study was performed to assess the feasibility of treatment of surface water supplying small fish hatchery to water of desirable quality by cross-flow filtration and ceramic membranes. The experiments were performed using river water as a feed and two kinds of ceramic membranes as separation medium. Filtration tests were carried out at constant temperature (293 K) and various operating parameters such as cross-flow velocity and transmembrane pressure. The subject of analysis and discussion was the membrane selectivity from the point of view of simultaneous removal of selected contaminants as well as productivity of examined membranes. Finally, flux data obtained for filtration of deionized water and surface water Were used for analysis in the frame of resistance-in-series model providing estimation of resistances characterizing examined systems, i.e. membrane hydraulic resistance, and reversible as well as irreversible fouling resistances.
