Building bridges: Educational opportunities and constraints for teaching engineering, water, and sanitation concepts in resource poor areas
This project seeks to confront two issues raised in international development. The first is regarding education in developing countries. The didactic approach used by most teachers, while successful in some subject areas, is no where near intuitive as using experiments to understand nature of science and technological based subjects. The second issue is the failure of initially successful projects implemented by relief engineers because of a lack Of understanding and acceptance from the local communities. The need exists for an educational handbook that can be used by teachers, or people with a technical background working in developing countries, to further their teaching capabilities using only the resources that are available to them.
