Direct Synthesis of K2SiF6:Mn4+ Red Phosphor from Crushed Quartz Schist by Wet Chemical Etching
A simple method of synthesizing red phosphor K2SiF6:Mn4+ is demonstrated. This method uses wet chemical etching of crushed quartz schist (QS) in a HF/KMnO4 solution. The synthesized phosphor has particle sizes of less than 10 mu m with porouslike morphology. The photoluminescence and photoluminescence excitation spectroscopy show no clear difference in the spectral feature between the crushed QS-synthesized phosphor and that from single-crystalline Si wafers.
