Effect of Organic Solvents on Enzyme-Catalyzed Synthesis of Biodiesel
In this work, the effect of choice of organic solvent on activity of lipase from Candida antarctica is examined. In particular, 28 hydrophobic and hydrophilic solvents from seven organic groups are investigated in the methanolysis of canola oil. The yield of biodiesel (fatty acid methyl ester) is correlated with log P (partition coefficient), dielectric constant (epsilon), and solubility parameter (delta) of the solvent.
