Production Monitoring at the Geinberg Geothermal Site
In 1998, after 18 years of production from well Geinberg-1, situated in the Molasse basin, Austria, production flow rate dropped from 20 L/s to 4-10 L/s due to excessive reservoir pressure drawdown. In order to encounter this problem, geothermal uses in Geinberg were arranged in a cascade and well Geinberg-Thermal-2 was completed in the framework of the THERMIE European program. Since then, well Geinberg-Thermal-2 has been used as a production well, and Geinberg-1 as reinjection. In 2003, after 5 years of reinjection practice, there was almost complete pressure and energy output recovery from the doublet, despite three times more fluid withdrawal rate.
