A mixed proton, oxygen ion, and electron conducting cathode for SOFCs based on oxide proton conductors
A composite cathode, consisting of Ba(Zr0.1Ce0.7Y0.2)O3-delta (BZCY) and La0.6Sr0.4Co0.2Fe0.8O3-delta (LSCF), has shown high catalytic activity toward oxygen reduction, demonstrating a peak power density of 855 mW cm(-2) at 750 degrees C. The chemical compatibility between BZCY and LSCF is excellent since there was no evidence of chemical reaction between the two after being. red at 1100 degrees C for 10 h. The stability of the composite cathode is further shown in single cells operated at 750 and 600 degrees C for 100 h without observable degradation in performance. (C) 2009 Elsevier B. V.
