Magnesium-Magnesium Bond Stabilized by a Doubly Reduced alpha-Diimine: Synthesis and Structure of [K(THF)(3)](2)[LMg-MgL] (L = [(2,6-(Pr2C6H3)-Pr-i)NC(Me)](2)(2-))
A new Mg-Mg-bonded compound stabilized by a doubly reduced a-diimine ligand, [K(THF)(3)](2)[LMg-MgL] (L = [(2,6-(Pr2C6H3)-Pr-i)NC(Me)](2)(2-)), has been synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and density functional theory analysis. The Mg-Mg bond length is 2.9370(18) angstrom.
