Construction of Multifunctional Cuboctahedra via Coordination-Driven Self-Assembly
We present a general strategy for the synthesis of stable, multifunctional cuboctahedral complexes in which coordination-driven self-assembly allows for precise control over positioning of either ferrocene or crown ether functionalities. The appropriate stoichiometric combination of functionalized 120 degrees diplatinum acceptor units with tritopic donor units afforded supramolecular cuboctahedra with covalently linked functional groups. The compounds are characterized by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy, electrospray ionization mass spectrometry, and electrochemistry.
