EFFECT OF SOME RARE-EARTH ADDITIVES ON CORROSION OF ALUMINUM BRONZE IN HCL SOLUTION
The effect of small additions of La, Ce and Nd (0.5-0.3%) on the corrosion of aluminium bronze in dil. HCl has been investigated using weight loss, polarization and ac impedance measurements. It is observed that additions of La and Ce decreased the corrosion of the base alloy considerably. The presence of 0.5% Nd in the alloy shows a slight beneficial effect whereas its higher content has an advance effect. The rate of corrosion is significantly reduced in deaerated 0.5N HCl solutions in presence of SO42- and NO33- ions at low levels.
