Oxidative paraffinic products for use as leather lubricants/fatliquors
Lubrication of leather is done by using the process of fatliquoring in which fatty constituents from marine, vegetable and synthetic sources are used after sulphitation and sulphonation. The present study is devoted to the oxidation of paraffinic hydrocarbons for preparation of base material for leather lubrication. The condition of oxidation and the effect of catalyst are dealt at length. The oxidised paraffins are also subjected to dispersability studies and leather applications. The investigations reveal that oxidised paraffin formulation do impart somewhat limited lubricating effect, but lacks sufficient dispersability and fixation.
