Ethylation of toluene with ethanol over NiAPO-5, NiAPO-11, ZnAPO-5 and ZnAPO-11 was carried out in the vapour phase. The products formed from this reaction were ethyltoluene, diethylether, benzene and styrene. The effects of temperature, reactant ratio, time on stream and influence of acidity on the conversion and product distribution were discussed. Maximum conversion was observed at 350 degrees C, but further increase in temperature decreased the conversion.
