Effect of amino resin treatment on dimensional stability and strength property of wood
Chemical modification of a soft wood, Kadam (Anthocephalus cadamba Mig.), was carried out with different concentrations of urea formaldehyde (UF) resin for different time periods under ambient environmental condition. The weight percent gain (WPG) and antishrink efficiency (ASE) due to polymer treatment were investigated. The ASEs of treated samples were found to increase with increased amounts of polymer loading and its maximum value (64.1%) was recorded at 28.98 WPG. So also, the highest modulus of rupture (342.3 kg/cm(2)) of treated sample was obtained at 28.98 WPG. The total weight losses on extraction with water of the polymer treated wood samples were also determined.
