Separation of neodymium from copper using supported liquid membrane loaded with D(2)EHPA
The process of supported liquid membrane (SLM) has been used to extract and separate neodymium and copper from dilute solution (Cu: 1 g/L and Nd: 0.3 g/L). The SLM was formed by loading di(2-ethyl-hexyl)phosphoric acid(D(2)EHPA) in the pores of PTFE membrane. Initially a transport study was made on the individual metal, as a function of feed pH and strip acidity, employing 1M D(2)EHPA dissolved in kerosene. From the permeability values obtained, feed pH of 1 and strip acidity of 1M were chosen and extraction and separation of Nd from Cu carried out effectively.
