The co-dispersion of silicon carbide with nano-C and B4C in aqueous ethanol solution
In this paper, the mixture of de-ionized water and ethanol was used as the solvent for SiC particles. SiC can be well co-dispersed in alkaline aqueous ethanol solution with the sintering aids nano-C and B4C, especially when the pH value is between 9 and 10. Polyethylene glycol (PEG) as the dispersant, it can improve the dispersion of SiC slurry. The adsorption of polyethylene glycol in SiC slurries was measured by thermal gravimetric (TG) and differential thermal analysis (DTA) in argon atmosphere. It was found that the adsorption of polyethylene glycol on the surface of SiC, nano-C and B4C! decreased with the increase of pH value and most free dispersant remained in the suspension at higher pH value. The granulated and flowable powder was prepared by spraying processing. (C) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
