Aqueous Electrosyntheses of Homo and Copolymers of Pyrrole and Aniline in a Binary Electrolyte System
We report on anodic homopolymerization and copolymerization of aniline (Ani) and pyrrole (Py) on composite 2B pencil graphite in aqueous medium. The electrochemical syntheses of these polymers in para-toluene sulfonic acid with and without potassium chloride (KCl) are investigated. The presence of KCl in the medium has improved the structural, optical, and morphological properties of the resulting polymers. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy confirms that copolymer synthesized in the presence of KCl has nearly equal units of both Py and Ani in copolymer backbone as compared to the one synthesized in absence of KCl. The copolymer prepared in absence of KCl has globular-like structure. Whereas the one synthesized in the presence of KCl has fiberlike structure.
