From Blue-Purple to Red-Emitting Phosphors, A(2-x)B(x)P(2)O(7): Eu2+, Mn2+ (A and B=Alkaline-Earth Metal) under Near-UV Pumped White LED Applications
Blue-purple to red-emitting phosphors, Sr2-xMgxP2O7: Eu2+, Mn2+, Sr2-xCaxP2O7: Eu2+, Mn2+ and Ba2-xMgxP2O7: Eu2+ were prepared by a solid state reaction under a weak reducing atmosphere and examined using photoluminescence, activator energy transfer and concentration quenching processes. The results showed that Sr2-xMgxP2O7: Eu2+, Mn2+, Sr2-xCaxP2O7: Eu2+, Mn2+ and Ba2-xMgxP2O7: Eu2+ can be excited efficiently by UV-visible light (250-450 nm) and show intense blue-purple, orange, and red emission with a broad peak at approximately 421, 592, and 614 nm, respectively. These characteristics are good candidates for blue-purple, orange, and red phosphors for the production of white light in phosphor conversion white LEDs.
