A novel method of processing of solid wastes from chemical industries is described. Black-ash sludge from barium chemical industries can be a source of barium chloride, which on reaction with sodium adipate gives barium adipate. The kinetics of calcination of barium adipate forming barium carbonate as a solid and cyclopentanone as a gaseous product is discussed.
