Conversion of Glycerol to Ethylene Glycol over Pt-modified Ni Catalyst
In glycerol hydrogenolysis, Ni/gamma-Al2O3 gave 1,2-propanediol mainly. In contrast, modification of the Ni/gamma-Al2O3 catalyst with a small amount of Pt promoted the conversion to ethylene glycol and CH4 by hydrocracking. This property is related to the formation of a Pt-Ni alloy surface.
