Synthesis of Metal Fullerene Derivatives from Chloro Hydrido Transition-Metal Complexes
Reaction of the chloro hydrido transition metal complexes [Pt(H)(Cl)(PPh3)2] and [Ir(H)2(CO)-(Cl)(PPh3)2] with C60 in refluxing ethanol/benzene in the presence of ethanolic NaOH results in the formation of [Pt(eta2-C60)(PPh3)2] and [Ir(H)(CO)-(eta2-C60)(PPh3)2], respectively. The proposed structure of the novel, green [Ir(H)(CO)(eta2-C60)(FPh3)2] complex is based on elemental analysis, IR and multinuclear NMR spectroscopy.
