A Versatile Synthon for the Preparation of Chiral Rhenium(I)-Amine Complexes and Synthesis of an Eta(2)-Benzaldehyde Species
Through the use of benzoylhydrazide, a Re(V)-oxo species is converted into the complex [ReN2(ampy)-(tbpy)PPh3]Cl (where thpy = 4,4’-di-tert-butylbipyridine and ampy = 2-(aminomethyl)pyridine). A precursor to chiral Re(I)-tetraamine complexes, [Re(OTf)(ampy)(tbpy)PPh3]OTf (4) is prepared from the corresponding dinitrogen species through anion metathesis and oxidation by silver triflate. Compound 4 may be reduced in the presence of benzaldehyde to generate the eta2-aldehyde species shown.
