While polyoxovanadium complexes containing organic groups as ligands have been extensively developed, no layered structures with bidentate organic amines as ligands have been reported up to now. A novel mixed-valence complex [(VV2V)-V-IV(phen)](n) with an;unusual layered structure consisting of parallel infinite ribbons has been synthesized through the hydrothermal reaction of vanadium pentoxide with phenanthroline.
