A Mixed (Arenethiolato)Copper(I)/Copper Bromide Aggregate - X-Ray Structure of Octanuclear (Cu-8(Sc6H3(CH(2)NMe(2))(2)-2,6)(3)Br-5)
The complex [Cu-8{SC6H3(CH(2)NMe(2))(2-)2,6}Br-3(5)] (4) is the first reported example of a mixed (thiolato)copper/copper halide aggregate. Its X-ray structure shows it to be a fully asymmetric molecule comprising three copper arenethiolate and five copper bromide entities and having a distorted square-antiprismatic arrange ment of the octanuclear copper core. Some structural features of the bonding of the bromine and the sulfur atoms are common to known aggregate structures, but the structure does show an unprecedented mu(4)-S-bonding of one arenethiolate ligand.
