EPR, Electronic, and Vibrational-Spectra of the Cucl6(4-) Anion in (Tris(2-Aminoethyl)Amineh(4))(2)(Cucl6)Cl-4-Center-Dot-2H(2)O and Crystal-Structure of the Complex
The synthesis and crystal structure of [tris(2-aminoethyl)amineH(4)]2CuCl10. 2H(2)O, C12H48Cl10CuN8O2, are reported. Crystals of the compound are triclinic, P (1) over bar, with a = 8.317(1) Angstrom, b = 9.506(1) Angstrom, c = 11.450(1) A, a = 94.43-(1)degrees, beta = 103.29(1)degrees and gamma = 114.04(1)degrees (Z = 1). The structure contains isolated CuCl64- anions, with CuCl(1) = 2.251(1), Cu-Cl(2) 2.361(1), and Cu-Cl(3) = 3.105(1)Angstrom. The g values obtained from the EPR spectrum of the powder are g(1) = 2.05, g(2) = 2.08, and g(3) = 2.29. These values are consistent with an elongated octahedral symmetry with a slightly rhombic distortion. The vibrational spectra of the CuCl64- anion are assigned in D-2h symmetry.
