Fluorination of B10H102- with an N-Fluoro Reagent - A New Way to Transform B-H Bonds into B-F Bonds
Cs2B10H10 reacted with 1-(chloromethyl)-4-fluoro-1,4-diazoniabicyclo[2.2.2]octane bis(tetrafluoroborate) (F-TEDA) to form the first fluorinated derivatives of B10H102-, including 1-B10H9F2-, 2-B10H9F2-, 1,10-B10H8F22-, and 1,2,10-B10H7F3-. The B-11 NMR spectra of B10H102- and 1,10-B10H8F22-, both of which have C-4v symmetry, are displayed here.
