Raman-Spectra of M(2)(or)(6) and M(2)R(6) (M=mo,W) Compounds - Assignment of the M-M Stretching Frequency in M(2)X(6) Dimers
Through comparison of the Raman spectra of a series of homologous compounds of the type M(2)X(6) (M = Mo, W; X = OR, R) containing a metal-metal triple bond, we have assigned bands at approximately 365 cm(-1) for the dimolybdenum species and approximately 285 cm(-1) for the ditungsten species to the metal-metal stretching frequency nu(M=M). This is the first definitive assignment of nu(M=M) in triply bonded M(2)X(6) compounds.
