CHARACTERIZATION OF A SPRAY GENERATED BY AN AIRBLAST ATOMIZER WITH PREFILMER
This study is a detailed characterization of the spray generated by an airblast atomizer with prefilmer. A phase Doppler instrument is used for characterization of a primary spray (generated inside the nozzle) and an airblast spray at various positions relative to the nozzle. The nozzle is installed in a pressure chamber that allows the spray to be investigated under elevated pressure conditions. Effects of the air ambient pressure and the liquid flow rates on the drop velocities and diameters are investigated. The collected data can be used for modeling airblast atomization.
