Particle separation in laminar tube flows with downstream expansion
The classification of particles with minor or negligible density difference to the fluid, for example separation of cells from a cell suspension, or clots from polymers is feasible by laminar flow in a circular and a downstream tube expansion containing the collector tube for the large particles. Experiments have been performed in a laboratory equipment. A numerical simulation of the particles trajectories following the stream-lines in the downstream expansion was executed.
