Experimental Investigation on Continuous Precipitation and Stabilisation of Ultrafine BaSO4
Submicron BaSO4 particles were continuously precipitated using a variety of flow- and concentration conditions and sterically stabilized using a dispersing agent. The used reactor was a T-shaped mixer. The necessary level of dispersing agent was determined. The role of mixing was investigated and timescales were compared to crystallization induction times derived from literature. Particle morphology and crystallinity were determined by both scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy which also revealed the internal structure of the precipitated particles in dependence of the reaction conditions.
