Polynuclear aggregation of manganese dichloride. Syntheses, properties, and structures of polymeric [MnCl2(THF)(1.6)](infinity), dimeric [(THF)(4)Mg(mu-Cl)(2)MnCl2], and ionic [Mg(H2O)(2)-(THF)(4)][Mg(H2O)(4)(THF)(2)][MnCl4](2)center dot 2THF compounds
The crystallization of MnCl2 in tetrahydrofuran results in the formation of polymeric [MnCl2(THF)(1.6)] (1) with an unexpected structure. This species represents the first crystallographically defined example of tetranuclear [Mn-4(mu(3)-Cl)(2)(mu(2)-Cl)(4)Cl-2(THF)(6)] units linked by MnCl2(THF)(2) moieties. Our observations highlight the importance of the M4X6 core present in 1 as a component of cl-olefin polymerization catalysts.
