Synthesis and single-crystal structure analysis of [Ba(NH3)(7)]C-60 center dot NH3
The title compound demonstrates that static Jahn-Teller distortion in C-60(2-) is negligible. Weak interactions between the ammonia ligands and the fullerenes lead to localized C-60(2-) anions without any hint of orientational disorder. [Ba(NH3)(7)]C-60. NH3 is prepared from stoichiometric amounts of barium and C-60 in liquid ammonia. It is composed from monocapped trigonal antiprismatic [Ba(NH3)(7)](2+) ammine complexes and ordered C-60(2-) anions, forming a distorted rock salt type structure.
