Oxidation of Guanosine to the Imidazolone Derivative via Proton-coupled Electron Transfer to Hydroperoxy Radical Derived from Superoxide
Oxidation of guanosine (G) with electrochemically generated superoxide (O-2(center dot-)) leads to the imidazolone (Iz) derivative as a single-electron oxidation product of G. A crucial step in the mechanism of the oxidation is the proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) from G to the hydroperoxy radical (HO2 center dot) that is derived from O-2(center dot-).
