An efficient and general method has been described for the synthesis of 3-allyl-3-hydroxyoxindole by the reaction of isatins with allyltrimethylsilane in the presence of Bi(OTf)(3)center dot 4H(2)O. The method is catalytic and suitable for the preparation of functionalized 3-allyl-3-hydroxyoxindoles.
