The asymmetric vinylogous Michael reactions of alpha,beta-unsaturated aldehydes with gamma-butenolide(buteno-4-lactone) were efficiently catalyzed by the Jorgensen-Hayashi catalyst and LiOAc. The desired products were obtained in satisfactory yields with excellent enantioselectivities and moderate diastereoselectivities.
