In this work, we report on single crystal growth and characterizations of Cs3EuI5. Single crystal Cs3EuI5 was grown via the Vertical Gradient Freeze method. Scintillation characteristics such as radioluminescence spectra, scintillation decay profiles and gamma-ray energy spectra are presented. The crystal exhibits scintillation light yield of similar to 39,000 ph/MeV and scintillation decay of similar to 4 mu s. This compound was found to be highly hygroscopic and requires special packaging techniques to maintain its optical and scintillation properties. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
