Powder samples of ScBaNa(BO3)(2) and YBaNa(BO3)(2) were prepared by two-step solid-phase synthesis and by heat treatment after mechanochemical activation. Crystal growth was performed from high temperature solutions of MBO3-BaO-B2O3-Na2O (M=Sc, Y) systems. By means of DSC and X-ray analysis some thermal properties of the crystals were described.
