Electrode materials based on hydrogen-sorbing alloys of AB(2) composition (A = Ti, Zr; B = V, Ni, Cr)
The alloy Zr0.5Ti0.5V0.5Ni1.3Cr0.2 with structure of C14 Laves phase was prepared by are melting under argon atmosphere. Sorption and electrocatalytical properties of electrodes based on the alloy with Cu-binder were investigated. Optimal conditions for treatment of the electrode surface in an alkaline electrolyte were identified. Alkaline activation of electrodes was more effective than absorption-desorption. Rate of reaction of evolution and ionization of absorbed hydrogen was increased by an order of similar to 1.5-2 by alkaline treatment. The effective diffusion coefficient of hydrogen was estimated as 10(-8) cm(2)/s.
