The development of a new recovery system involving direct contact of a dilute suspension of fine particles with a rain of coarse and dense particles in a packed column is described. The experiments are complemented by an analysis of the hydrodynamic behaviour. The experimental results show that the behaviour of a dilute multiphase system may be described by two or more diphase systems.
