There is presented the mechanism of the cavitation phenomenon and the overview of related literature, with a special attention given to the effects of the macro-molecular polymer additives on cavitation and its consequences. The most important mathematical models used for determining the cavitation parameters for the non-Newtonian fluids have been given. The consequences of the cavitation phenomenon and its possible applications are discussed.
