Hydraulics and mass transfer in packed columns with ceramic rings R-PAC and SR-PAC on gas/liquid systems
Results of mass transfer and hydrodynamic investigations on new random packings R-PAC and SR-PAC as well as Raschig rings and Intalox saddles has been presented. Systems air/water and ammonia-air/water in columns of 0.22 m to 0.45 m diameter has been used. The nominal packing diameter was 25 mm (1 ") and 50 mm (2 "). Increase of gas capacity for SR-PAC and R-PAC, decrease of flow resistance and increase of mass transfer efficiency in compare to Raschig rings and Intalox saddles has been obtained. The methodics based on suspended droplets model [1,2] for design of packed columns with above mentioned packings was presented. Exchange of classic packing to SR-PAC and R-PAC in existing instalations (so called repacking) gives considerable decrease working costs (ca. 2 times) and causes improvement of products quality. Using of the packings in new instalations leads to decrease of working and invest costs because of decrease of column sizes.
