A basic information concerned with genetic algorithms was presented. A modified genetic algorithm (GA) has been proposed. The modified algorithm was verified using testing functions. As an example of the GA applicability, the identification of degradation kinetics of vitamin C was considered. Experimental data for a convective dryer with air flowing over the material were used. The genetic algorithm was also used to search weights in the artificial neural network designed for smoothing of experimental data The data smoothing effect was illustrated on the example of drying of green peas in a vibrofluidized-bed dryer.
