SBO contains many unsaturated fatty acids, like oleic acid, linoleic acid and linolenic acid so that it can be easily oxidized by oxygen. To understand the reactivity of α- hydrogen to carbonyl group, allylic, bisallylic, consecutive methylene and methyl group-hydrogens, the autoxidation of SBO and n-decane, which only has methylene and methyl groups, was performed. The function of antioxidants like: (a) phenol, (b) 2,6-dimethyl-phenol, (c) 2,6-di-t-butyl-4-cresol and (d) N-oxyl was also investigated. We used N-oxyl as a standard. |
