Sensitive Detection of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons using β-CD Dimer-immobilized Ag Assembly Embedded SiO2 Nanoparticles |

We design the sensor materials, which have a β-Cyclodextrin dimer on silver nanoparticles embedded with silica nanoparticles (Ag@SiO2 NPs) structure, and measured their ability of detecting polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). As a substrate for intensifying surface-enhanced Raman scattering(SERS) signal, Ag@SiO2 NPs were used as sensitive SERS structure and a dimeric β-CD was added on the surface of Ag NPs to capture PAHs. The structure of β-CD dimer@Ag@SiO2 NPs was confirmed by TEM, UV-vis and ATR-FTIR. The β-CD dimer@Ag@SiO2 NPs had a wide linearity range of 10-7 M to 10-2 M with a low detection limit of 10-8 M for detecting perylene (one kind of PAHs). Furthermore, the possibility of the β-CD dimer@Ag@SiO2 NPs was demonstrated as a selective and a multiplex detection for organic materials and various PAHs. This approach of combining an assembled structure and the ligands to recognize target has potential for utilizing in sensitive analytical sensors. |
