A Study of pH-Triggered Linear Optical Switches Based on Styryl Quinolinium Derivatives |

We designed and synthesized new organic push-pull π-conjugated compounds to investigate their pH-switchable linear optical responses. We introduced NHQ (styryl quinolinium) cation core structure as a pH sensing site on styryl quinolinium derivatives. These compounds were designed as push-pull π-conjugated molecules containing a protonated quinolinium in electron acceptor and a pH responsive functional group such as dimethylamino, 4-hydroxy-3-methoxy, phenolic group on electron donor. The linear optical properties of NHQ compounds were studied by UV-vis absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy at various pH values in various solutions. We developed new fluorescent probes for sensing pH values based on styryl quinolinium derivatives. |
