Synthesis of ω-brominated Poly(Ethylene oxide) and its use for synthesis of RAFT agent |

Heterotelechelic and chain-end functionalized polymers have received a great attention in the polymer chemistry field. Among them, ω-halogenated polymer is well known as a macroinitiator for atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Furthermore, it can be used for synthesis of reversible addition fragmentation transfer (RAFT) agent. We have first synthesized ω-brominated Poly(ethylene oxide) throughanionic polymerization of ethylene oxide. The resulting living alkoxide was terminated with 2-bromopropionyl bromide leading to production of ω-brominated PEO. The ω-brominated polymer may be converted to the RAFT agent through the reaction with Potassium ethyl xanthogenate. In this presentation, we will report the preliminary results. |
