There is a growing interest in the development of ionic polymer network membranes as electromechanical actuators and sensor due to their outstanding actuation ability under a low DC voltage with a relatively prompt response along with their light weight and excellent processability. In this study, we prepared a ionic polymer network by crosslinking of poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA) by sulfosuccinic acid. Sulfonated halloysite nanotube (sHNT), which was prepared by treatment of HNT with propane sultone, was employed as a reinforcing filler for the ionic polymer network. It was observed that the sHNT are dispersed uniformly at nanoscale in PVA matrix and improve the mechanical properties of the PVA. Water uptake, ion-exchange capacity, actuator performance and ion conductivity of the ionic polymer nanocomposite network were investigated. |
