Perfluorinated sulfonic acid (PFSA) ionomers have been used as representative membrane materials in a wide range of applications such as fuel cells, electrolysis, and redox flow batteries.Though PFSA ionomers have been well known as chemically durable materials, their tolerance should be improved further for applying them to practical fuel cell systems operated under harsh conditions. One plausible solution to this issue would be to impregnate PFSA ionomers in microporouspoly(tetrafluoroethylene) (PTFE) support films employing pore-filling membraneconcept.Fundamentalcharacteristics of the resulting PFSA-PTFE membranes are highly influenced by material factors as well as processing variables. In this study, PTFE support films with different physical characteristics are utilized to prepare PFSA pore-filling membranes and investigate their membrane properties. |
